The 6th annual Staff-Management Committee session took place in New York this past week. Representatives of staff unions from UNHQ, UNOG, ESCWA, ECA, UNON, UNLB, ESCAP, ESLAC, UNOV, UNICEF, ICTY, and UNHCR met with management officials from a variety of departments to discuss many different facets of staff wellbeing.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was in attendance for part of the Wednesday afternoon meeting. He addressed the committee and spoke about reaching gender parity, staff safety and security, saving costs within peacekeeping missions, and the staff recruitment process.
Items up for discussion included: pension delays, organizational control of safety and security, the GS/NO/FS to P barrier, internal justice, types of office space, gender equality, Inspira, rest and recuperation, career mobility, classification of family vs non-family duty stations, travel during weekends, equality between English and French, protecting whistleblowers, measures against harassment, medical insurance, and the internship program, among other issues.
